IELTS Score 5.0~5.5 Tips
The 5.5 IELTS score is the minimum score required by educational institutions for students who want to go on a foundation (university preparation) course rather than a regular university course. It is possible to enter a foundation course when you achieve an average score of 5.0 to 5.5. However, note that students must pass English courses or submit IELTS band 6.0-6.5 to study in regular university programs in the U.K. or Australia after completing the foundation.
Band Score 5.0~5.5 Tips
Many students go on to foundation courses after obtaining 5.0-5.5. In this case, students whose English proficiency is verified in their English courses to score 6.0 or 6.5, which is required by regular university programs, do not need IELTS scores. However, students must receive 6.0 to 6.5 one or two months before completing their courses if their English proficiency is not verified in their 8~9 month courses at school. Those who do not have experience of studying abroad may assume that they can achieve IELTS scores and improve their English skills at the same time while taking 8~9 month foundation courses, but in fact, it can be very challenging to improve their IELTS scores during the foundation programs because those foundation courses are not associated with IELTS test. It is the safest to study abroad after you receive the score required by your target university before leaving.
