Last-Minute Tips for the IELTS Test – Writing
There is no worse feeling than underperforming in a test that you've prepared so hard for. Take a look at these tips that could prevent that and also sharpen your skills at the very last minute before the actual IELTS Writing exam.
Allocating appropriate time for each task
Because Task 2 has twice the score than Task 1, it is recommended to divide the 1-hour test time into 20 minutes for Task 1 and 40 minutes for Task 2.
Avoid using contractions
In academic writing, you should avoid using expressions used in spoken English. This includes refraining from using contractions such as don't and can't.
Writing based on common sense
When writing in task 2, you must build a firm, logical development for your ideas. You should use universal ideas that can be understood globally rather than writing examples limited to a specific cultural setting unless specifically directed to do so. Note that the topic does not necessarily have to be strictly academic.
