Last-Minute Tips for the IELTS Test – Listening
There is no worse feeling than underperforming in a test that you've prepared so hard for. Take a look at these tips that could prevent that and also sharpen your skills at the very last minute before the actual IELTS Listening exam.
Stay extra-focused in the beginning
If you miss something at the start of the recording, you will likely have difficulty in staying focused for the rest of the recording. Try to concentrate especially on the first part of the listening, and work on the questions after the recording is completely finished to avoid making any mistakes. There could be some questions you might miss, but you should not spend too much time regretting over them and press on regardless.
Know your key words right
Use the 30 seconds given in between Parts 1, 2, and 3 to identify the main keywords and directions first and then tackle the questions. Do this so that you don't lose focus in the middle of the test.
It's a trap option! Take evasive action!
In multiple-choice questions, the candidates will likely fall for trap options instead of choosing the right answer. When working on a question, it is important to filter out the distractors and choose the correct answer while concisely writing down the information of the recording.
Use your inference skills for gap fills
In the gap-filling task type, you can decrease the likelihood of choosing incorrect answers if you can correctly infer what part of speech will go in the blank and thus filter out unnecessary information.
