What are some top tips for the General Writing Task 1?

TIP 1 : Write more than the minimum word limit
Practice increasing word count to a minimum of 150 words in time
- Organize content and stick to the word limit by brainstorming before writing letters
TIP 2 : Analyze the question type before anything else
Three different types on the exam: informal (to friends) / semi-formal (to coworkers) / formal (to someone unfamiliar)
- Practice appropriate language register according to each type
- Use informal tone to friends, and use formal vocabulary to coworkers and someone unfamiliar
TIP 3 : Importance of paragraphing
Organize your letters with an introduction(overview), body(main points), and conclusion(wrap-up)
- Know appropriate opening and closing expressions to use in each context
- Organize your letters with an opening statement(introduction), body and a closing statement (conclusion)
- Practice the proper use of punctuation as it is also one of the grading criteria
TIP 4 : Practice brainstorming
Need to practice brainstorming based on scenarios
- Organize ideas for Invitations, complaints, and giving information etc. before writing letters
