TIP 1 : Practice listening to the correct pronunciations and accents
The key to hearing accurately is to practice identifying the correct pronunciations and accents of the words.
- Identify the stress on a particular word and listen to its linking sound repeatedly.
TIP 2 : Practice getting used to the sound – Dictation! (fill in the blanks)

- Practice identifying the right word in the blanks by guessing the proper part of speech
- This is a handy method when it comes to identifying paraphrases and sentence structures
TIP 3 : Multiple choice
Surprisingly, many candidates incorrectly answer multiple choice types because you cannot go back and listen again. When answering these questions, Make sure to identify the keywords first.
- Check the keywords using the listening script
- Recognize patterns of questions in detail.
- Analyze how the words in the script are paraphrased, while taking note of prominent adjectives/nouns.
